Violent Cravings

Geez, I've been wanting sweets since two days ago.  I tried to put up with it because I wanted to discipline myself and shed some weight before my good friend's wedding.

Q&A

Some of my friends have asked me some questions on chat and here are the answers!

1. How long does it take you to do a drawing?
30 seconds to 10 minutes (absolute tops!!!)  I really don't have much patience...

2. Do you edit them?
For most, yeah, via Picasa.  After taking a picture of my drawings, I sharpen them, adjust exposure, crop, etc.

3. PC or Mac?
PC, but I want a Mac because of low virus infection rates and you can just do so much with it!  Honestly, I just want something that's light in weight...I'm such an ahjooma.

4.  So what exactly are you doing these days?
Short story: I'm unemployed.
Detailed story:   I look for jobs.

Lesson 1: Macarons vs. Macaroons

Bon soir.

I decided to dedicate this entry to those who keep mixing up macarons with macaroons!  Let me teach you the difference.  It is a pet peeve of mine that people call the beautiful, delightful, colorful, flavorful macarons...macaroons.  Macaroons are the small mounds of buttery shaved coconut.

top notes: grapefruit, greens, raspberry, pear
middle notes: apple blossom, litchi, jasmine, violet, rose
base notes: musk, cedar, plum
 After an hour spent on searching for the perfect scent, I ended up with this one.  Unfortunately, I'll be returning it soon.

I liked it because the initial scent was light and citrusy with soft florals, but after a while, towards the base notes, it left a metallic and musky smell...my least favorite kind of scent. 

Arggg.....this was a terrible drawing too! I guess my drawing quality reflects my mood.... ARRRGG

Summers in Korea

 My sister and I are quite the bug fanatics.  We've raised silk worms, rhino beetles, farming ants and caught many many insects including wasps (but those were done on accident).  Every summer, which is dragonfly and cicada season, we would go out with our three dollar bug net (an upgrade from ziplock bags we used to catch with) and bug cage to pluck some critters.

I had a tendency of swiping the net too quickly (a badminton habit) and the dragonflies I caught (to our horror) would  have their heads cut off
........................ooops...........My sister hated me for that.

Anyway, my sister is seriously a dragonfly gaia: they all just willingly rest on her head and fingers.  Whereas I, after a series of beheadings (all done unintentionally!!!), am cursed and no dragonflies dare to come near me.

FAMILY BUG FACTS:
DAD: "I used to catch bees and pull out their stingers with tweezers."  How inhumane!  But I'm disturbingly intrigued....
MOM: "I used to tie a thread on the dragonflies tails and fly them around like kites."  Hehe :)

Like most kids in Korea, my sister and I spent our youthful summers riding jam packed subway trains for an hour and a half to learn from the finest SAT prep schools in the city.  When we were lucky to have a spot to sit down, I'd immediately fall asleep and my sister would quietly listen to my mp3.

While walking home from the subway station and eating snacks, she would tell me how my mouth was wide open the whole time and how people were staring:  "It was so embarrassing!"

My aunt told me, "Isn't the purpose of having money to make sure you live a safe and healthy good life?  Don't eat out too often.  Learn to cook wholesome meals and make your body strong.  Other good things will follow."

Layers

When I was about four or five years old, my mom would draw me blank tiered birthday/wedding cakes on loose leaf papers.

i'd ask for three or four tiers. sometimes seven or more...

Then I would be given the sheet of paper to decorate the cake.

Today I spent TWO HOURS helping my mom make her own blog via webcam...luckily she had a detachable webcam, so I was able to see what she was seeing.  Many calories were sacrificed this afternoon from all the talking, scowling, hand to face smacking motions, and yoga-style breathing to calm myself down.  I felt bad for my next door neighbor because the walls are thin and he could probably hear everything that I was saying...

Me: "Click the 'edit' button on the right...yeah..no..no NO! NO! The one next to the 'delete' button..you were JUST next to it. Yes. Click that."
Mom: "Ooooo!  It's a completely new world."

the confidence and lives of my friends. as long as it's not excessive, i think it's fine.

I like walking my dog around the neighboring central park, buying a 40 cent drink from the vending machine, and sitting on a bench to people-watch and get high on the sanguine atmosphere.

Pentacostalism

Yesterday I met my cousin's vet friend who was pentacostal. I was completely unaware of pentacostal customs such as women keeping their hair long and wearing womanly clothing (ie. skirts and dresses).  I asked her why such rules were implemented and she explained to me with some verses in the Bible:

"If a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him....if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering." (1 Cor 11:14-15)
"For if the woman be not covered; let her also be shorn (~shear; cut); but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered." (1 Cor 11:6) 
"The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God." (Deuteronomy 22:5)

Of course she didn't have to take it literally, but she made it clear it was her choice and wanted to follow it.  We talked about hair problems all evening. Stories about her hair (that reached past her knees) were highly entertaining and painful at the same time!

In 8 hours, I'll be interviewing at the university my cousin goes to.  It has multiple professional health programs and is located on the sunniest side of California.

Her choice of poison: veterinary.  Last week she was at a llama farm for 6+ hours in the pouring rain.  This week she'll be showing me her cute furry patients (both dead and alive...).

Oi, I'm tired.
