Hawaii

The landlady (or, as I prefer calling her, the lady of the house), came in for a comprehensive eye exam.  This was the first time I was examining someone I was familiar with.  And for that reason, I was very nervous.  I wanted to show her the things I learned, I wanted to give her the best examination she ever had.  But I was shy and muttered a bit of useless mumbo jumbo here and there.  Usually I can give an entire examination in Korean without much hesitation, but today I was stumbling everywhere!  I told her I wasn't too sure why I was so nervous around her, but she put her hand on my back and told me that seeing me work hard made her feel very happy and satisfied.

On the way home, I recognized one of the college student guests from Hometel cross the street at the stop light.  We both saw and acknowledged each other.  I asked if he was on his way home and needed a ride since it was 90 degrees today.  He said yes and it was a fast 2 minute ride back home in the air conditioned car.  He gave me a cup of cold water with two hands and said thank you.  Later on, I was eating by myself at the two person dinner table and he came to join.  I learned that he was doing a two month internship in the states, went through the Korean army and was 24 years old.  He was shocked that I was two years older, but that made me feel pretty good because I have been feeling all old and responsible lately.  Although, two days ago, the pastor asked my cousin how old I was because I acted super mature, but looked 22.  YESSSSS KEEP EM COMIN!

After dinner, the lady of the house invited me into her office and showed me a simple card and package she received from a church friend in Hawaii.  "You can read Korean, right Sandra?"  I nodded.  It read something like this:

"I wish I could send you the beautiful blue skies of Hawaii,
but delivering this card on blue paper will have to do for now."

There were 6 cans of macadamian nuts and the lady of the house asked me to choose one.  Though I was eyeing the can of chocolate covered and the kona coffee one, I chose the regular dry roasted macadmian nuts because that was the only one that came in a pair.  Still delicious!

I felt thankful that she liked sharing a bit more of her life with me because I have not yet seen her do that with any other guests in the house.
